Czech harpist Kateřina Englichová and Czech oboist Vilém Veverka released their album Predominance earlier this year. Produced by Veverka Concert and distributed by Supraphon, the album is available as a physical CD, as an MP3 download, and on digital streaming platforms.
According to the album liner notes written by Veverka, the project consists entirely of works that Englichová and Veverka commissioned for their duo, featuring four compositions by three major Czech composers of today—Jiří Gemrot, Martin Hybler, and Petr Wajsar. “Predominance is not a retrospective of our 20 years of collaboration but rather a selection of the most essential works created for us over the past four years,” Veverka says. “We believe that today’s performers—much like composers—should not only be open to new impulses but also actively seek ways to push the boundaries of musical creation and interpretation. We see Predominance as both a journey of discovery and a defense of the value of contemporary Czech music … Predominance is our way of demonstrating that contemporary music can be not only relevant but also deeply inspiring.”
A recent recipient of the Prague Music Award, Englichová performs all over Europe, North America, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand and is the professor of harp at the Prague Conservatoire. In addition to her frequent collaborations with Veverka, Englichová has previously released several chamber music recordings (including collaborations with violinist Silvie Hessová and soprano Kateřina Kněžíková).
