Harpist Anna Hagen self-released her album Midnight ’til Morning: Minor & Medieval Harp Christmas Carols on Oct. 9, featuring her own arrangements of 12 carols which she says have influenced her Medieval sense of the holiday. “These haunting minor key sounds embody the long, dark nights of the advent season and yearn for the dawn of Christmas morning,” Hagen says. She describes her arrangements as a mixture of acoustic harp sounds with modern electronic effects and percussion, including string slapping sounds enhanced with reverb. In addition to Hagen (harp, percussion, and woodwinds), the album features guest musicians Nathan Butler (percussion) and Janelle Rundquist (vocals).
Hagen is a harpist, speaker, and arranger in northern Indiana and principal harp of the Elkhart County Symphony. Her new album is available as a CD or digital download and via streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. Several of her arrangements from the album are available on Harp Column Music.
