Notes from the arranger
The dissonance in the first verse and motif establish a sense of awe and wonder at God’s sacrificial love. The second verse uses an a-rhythmic feel to create the sensation of “sinking down.” The single voice in the beginning of the third verse poignantly notates “I will sing” and then morphs into more voices as “millions join the theme.” The final verse is a triumphant stanza of joy and fearlessness at the thought of eternity.
