Thank you I will check it out!
tanyanoelParticipantI have (and love) my Camac Bardic 27. I will say however, that it was not my first harp. I purchased a much larger 38 string Camac Excaliber that I love and bought the Bardic 27 to have as a 2nd harp to keep with me when I travel and take out and about. I only started playing harp about 9 months ago, and like yourself was previously a guitar player. I will say that I think it would have been much harder for me to start on the Bardic than on my larger 38 string harp because the smaller harp is harder to stabilize than the larger model and quite frankly the harp is already a challenge! My Bardic did come with nice long removable legs that I use when playing (maybe they all do I am not sure) and that is helpful, and I do like it the best out of the smaller harp models I had tried, it is a solid fun little harp. I would say that if your budget is what you said it is, that would be a GREAT option as a harp for you.
tanyanoelParticipantI have tried out most of the Camac line, however not the Aziliz. I would recommend the Isolde to you, it is very popular and very easy on the hands it has what I call the ‘noodle’ string tension. I often lesson on that harp (my teacher is also a Camac dealer) as well as other Camac harps and I would recommend looking into that harp instead of the Hermine and it is similarly priced and I think the Isolde sounds and feels better to play as it is a larger instrument.
I purchased an Camac Excaliber (I prefer higher tension and that it is!).

tanyanoelParticipantAbsolutely wonderful, I am so inspired and moved that I have started learning this piece myself.
tanyanoelParticipantThanks, I’ll take a look at that one as well!
tanyanoelParticipantSo, I just downloaded musescore (Hey free is worth a try right!!!) and so far it is pretty easy and I have to say will probably fill my notation needs for a while!
I will look into the others recommended as well, thank you!
tanyanoelParticipantGreat, thank you. I am a Mac user so would want something for that OS.
tanyanoelParticipantWow.
tanyanoelParticipantThan you wil-weten, a great collection of videos to watch. And Biago, this documentary is so wonderful!
tanyanoelParticipantJust to answer the string stretch question….. I just changed 2 strings on my 38 string harp, and I tuned them up a teeny bit not a full half step just a touch wondering if that would help stretch the strings faster. I gotta say, that didn’t really help, nor do I think a full half step up would really help. I needed to retune my 2 new strings a lot of the first few days, they would never have held their pitch for a weekend when new. So, My advice would simply be, accept that you will just need to keep tuning up the strings over the next 2-6 days until they eventually and gradually settle in a stretch. This is one of those things you cannot speed along.
tanyanoelParticipantWowzers, well I don’t feel so bad about not being able to figure out how to upload a profile pic!!!! Thank you for the instructions, I will give it a whirl.
tanyanoelParticipantTayce, I second that, what a great video I had no idea!
tanyanoelParticipantIt went very well!!!!! I ended up playing for some family members at my home Christmas Eve and then at our big family gathering Christmas Day. They were thrilled and really enjoyed it, they also had lots of questions about the harp and several questions about the different colors of the strings 🙂
I had MORE than enough music to play, so that was good. I wasn’t too nervous, but it was hard not to get distracted especially when various folks turned on their cel phone cameras to record. But that was all very cool and when I made mistakes or got distracted (which I certainly did) I just laughed and giggled and it was no big deal.
I must say, I enjoyed it as well and will definitely do it again. The harp is a lovely instrument to share with people. And I JUST purchased my very first harp the day before, a Camac Excaliber, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it so it was perfect timing.
tanyanoelParticipantI will definitely put that on my list to learn, you can never now too many pieces 🙂
tanyanoelParticipantWil-weten – I have and LOVE Sylvia Woods 50 Christmas Carols book. I was so happy that there were easy versions that also had fingerings and chord symbols, that has really helped me out. I was so pleased with her book I e-mailed her to thank her for putting it together the way she did. I also downloaded mp3s from her website so I can play along, which is also helpful and a little more fun playing to a metronome.
