Lyra Music in Florida I believe, sells carbon fiber strings by Savarez, and as far as I know, has for a long time. (I admit I don’t use them, so if they are different from what you need, I apologize in advance.) Look here……. http://www.lyramusic.com/

I last heard from him on the 10th of September and he is still around, just struggling to get through his life, day by day. But he is still with us. Like most here, I pray for his safety and keep him in my thoughts.

The Atlanta Harp Center is having a 20% off sale on Bow Brand strings for the month of September. Here is the link http://stores.atlantaharpcenter.com/StoreFront.bok
Donna, I have also waited on the Vanderbilt string sale, but I spoke to them this past summer and was told they didn’t always have the sale. Their gift certificates never had an expiration date on them in the past, but they do now, so I can no longer collect gift certificates during the year, and spend them on strings. My husband always bought them for me during the year for special occasions.

Hi Lynn, I’m sorry to hear that you are disappointed, but please take pride in the fact that you know you played well. You said your parents recorded the session. Have your own teacher evaluate it and see if she is in agreement/disagreement with the comments. Also, take it to a professional harpist that you respect, other than your own teacher, and ask them for an evaluation. You can post it to You Tube and let others hear it. I am sure you will receive constructive and positive feedback. I would love to hear you play, and I’m sure many other individuals at Harp Column would. And you are right in that the world is not always fair. Don’t let that hinder you in the future. All the best, Sherj

Basel sent me a short message on July 21st, and he appreciates being thought of. It’s wonderful so many people do pray for his safety. I also only know him through these forums. Thanks for asking about him.

    Katie,
To echo a question from above, “Do you sew?” I have a pattern that works incredibly well. I can send it to you. I have done two and they were certainly decent covers, and turned out well. I also learned from the experience, and am better now than I was before. When do you need a cover, now or later. And exactly how much protection do you need in one?

    Sherri,
With a weather report like that, you could be living in New York. It seems like the rain hasn’t stopped all summer. I also use an air conditioner to keep the humidity down, but this year it hasn’t been enough. I’ve been running a dehumidifier all season to keep mine between 55 and 60%. Maybe adding one would help you control your humidity? They can be set to cut off automatically when the proper level is reached in a room. I can’t help on the other questions, so best of luck. You are not alone!!!!

    David,
We haven’t heard so just wondering, how is the shoulder? Hoping you are well on the road to recovery! Sherj

A wonderful friend I met at South Eastern Harp had an arrangement published in the Winter 2012 Folk Harp Journal, “Heaven’s Young Son, Slumber” arranged by Mary Umbarger. I had never heard it, but it is a sweet lullaby to the baby Jesus, and easily playable. (So yes, I am onto Christmas music as well.) I always have to practice Sunita’s “In the Bleak Mid Winter” as one of my favorites.

I liked the article too. It’s one of those things I made a favorite so I could refer back to it, just for such an occasion. I’m glad it was a help, and so much less expensive than other repair options. Sherj
