So here I am, very much an amateur on lever harp – just a few years in, learning on my own. I would like to get some practice playing in front of people. I also would like to do something nice for people. I surely don’t want to step on toes of those who make a living, though (at my level, I can’t imagine that I really could ). What about hospice? Do professionals get paid to play for hospice patients, or could I volunteer some time there? Our family recently had the services of a hospice and I take my mother-in-law to a bereavement support group. So I have a hospice connection and I could volunteer for them.
Cindy Kleinstuber Blevins has a Lap Harp Compendium that is in C, no levers needed. Pretty songs. Possibly other applicable books as well.

Echoing Barbara’s comment, my Sylvia Woods arrangement is on its way here. She just announced its availability and I ordered it right away.
I have a Blevins Consort 36. I’ve had it for 15 months now. I love it. I had played a Riversong in the vendor hall at the Somerset festival in July 2010. I talked with Cindy after that and ended up ordering the Consort. I was so lucky that our vacation that year had us within an hour of the Blevins’ in Colorado. I was able to visit and try the Consort. I’ve only been playing for a bit over a year and have only experienced playing a few harps, so I don’t want to imply that I’m an expert, but wanted you to know that I love my harp! I rented a Troubadour before getting my Consort, and I like the sound of my Consort every bit as much.
I have a Blevins Consort 36 and I love it. I think the string tension on my harp is a bit lighter than the Dusty Ravenna that I very briefly tried – not a whole lot, but I liked the Blevins better. I haven’t ever played an Ogden.

I keep going to the Highland Harp website. This has just 26 strings, but the base/wheel concept seems great. Here is a link to the testimonials page. I am a novice and have a Blevins Consort 36 that i love. I don’t play out anywhere, but I still keep looking at this harp. I’d love to try one.

Hi,
I am just a beginner and so I hesitate to post. I was having a difficult time with rolled chords, period. Then I read something that made me try it a different way. I started to concentrate on closing my fingers – not on playing each note. I realize it’s all the same thing – when we play a string, we close into our palms. For rolling, I could close my fingers more evenly if I thought of the closing, rather than the notes/strings. Now if I could just do it well with both hands in play!
