I’ve seen quite a few concerts given by prominent harpists and winners of international harp competitions and from what I remember they closed their program with Salzedo’s Ballade, Renie’s Legende, Viejo Zortzico, Faure’s Une Chatelaine en Sa Tour to name a few. I think

There are DVDs of Miss McDonald playing some important harp repertoire and the Debussy Danses. It is amazing to watch her play flawlessly at her current age and she is very inspirational. You will definitely enjoy them. Also, the BYU harp archives sell DVDs of BYU students playing ensemble and solo harp music.

I had always dreamed and wondered what it would be like to see footage of Miss McDonald performing or even see her live. I listen to her live recording of Renie’s pieces and I am just breath taken. My first teacher, whom I don’t study with anymore,

That’s a bad idea to record yourself. My teacher has been going to these competitions for over 20 years. She knows what the judges are looking for and a bad recording is something they don’t like so try recording at a studio. Her daughter won first place last year and is a student at The Julliard School.
So Jennifer Ellis how’s the Intermediate II Repetoire going along? I’ve learned it and had fun playing it. So what’d you think about Henriette Renie’s: Contemplation-Andante Religioso? I thought it was challenging at first especially those arpeggios that are played with 1 hand.

I’ve studied Grossi’s Method for Harp and it was great. I just recently bought Universal Method for Harp by Bochsa-Oburthuer and it’s beyond excellent and covers theory, many technical studies, and other information you can’t live without. I love it. If you choose to buy this book start from the beginning and take your time on the exercises from beginning to end. Once you have the beginning exercises well practiced, speed and agility will start to pick up and you can move on to the next exercises. You’ll be able to develop great technique.
