ParticipantYou might want to check out Carl Swanson’s website.
He has several smaller used pedal harps for sale and they have been restored and regulated so they are ready to go.

ParticipantThere is a used Thormahlen Swan in Koa with gut strings at Melody’s Music.
Here is the link, if you are interested:

I was checking their used harps and then I read your post and thought I would mention the Swan to you.

ParticipantIs is possible to get harp insurance that would cover this sort of manufacturing defect or failure?
I was thinking about renting a harp and one of the conditions was that I would have to insurance on it while it was in my possession.

ParticipantNot that I can afford a pedal harp at this time, but after reading this I have decided that when, and if, I ever can buy a pedal harp, I am going to buy either one of Carl Swanson’s harps or a restored one from Howard Bryan.
If this is the kind of support you get from Lyon & Healy, I am not sure I would want to buy one of their harps.
This is obviously a manufacturing defect and they should put on a new soundboard at no cost to you and probably give you reduced shipping as well.
$2200 plus shipping for a patch job is ridiculous.

ParticipantMy Fisher Eireann has a round back which is made of laminated wood.
I find that the sound is louder and more resonant than another Celtic harp I used to own that had a hardwood soundbox.
Mr. Fisher says that the soundbox being made of laminated wood is why all his harps have the same sound qualities no matter what the rest of the harp is made of.
My harp is Koa and projects wonderfully well.
Hope this helps.

ParticipantYes, I sold it quite a while ago.
Janice Hunter
ParticipantMy Fisher is light tension.

ParticipantI have Delacour levers on my Fisher Koa Eireann and Camac levers on my Triplett Eclipse.
I like the Delacour levers a bit more as they are easier for me to flip and I think they look nicer than the Camac.

ParticipantAnd who are you? Why do you think Briggsie isn’t entitled to a considered opinion?

ParticipantHi Rita,
It is Kortier, not Korrigan.

ParticipantI think that the tuning pins and levers would hold the cordura away from the wood of the harp but it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to drape something like soft flannel or velour over the top of the harp before putting it in the case.
I was thinking that I could make a cover just for the top of the harp for that reason.
Anyone have a Cronkhite case and what can you tell me about it?
Thanks,
Janice

ParticipantI just went upstairs to the closet and checked my case and it is a Coon Hollow case.
The inside of mine is lined with soft black corduroy and has the maroon cordura sewn on both sides, at the top, where the levers and tuning pins are.
Janice Hunter
ParticipantI think that the case that came with my Fisher Eireann is a Coon Hollow case.
Larry Fisher delivered my harp on his way to Somerset and the case is really nice and quite pretty.

ParticipantYou said that the Delacour levers might be fine for “something like Celtic music” and that sounds like you don’t think much of Celtic, but maybe I misunderstood what you meant.
