Hi Rosemary,
Your raising makes sense…but these students were making such a show out of it, and were raising like pom-pom girls.
David IceParticipantHi Julieanne,
“My understanding of the raising gesture is that it is dependent on context. “
My most surreal moment was watching Salzedo harpists at a harp competition raise while tuning.
David IceParticipantBravo Julieann,
I decided to totally change technique after spending time with David Watkins.
David IceParticipantI did have to re-learn the old pieces, but I found that the transferrence to the new technique was so complete that once I got to the point of concentrating on the new technique while playing old pieces, it was almost redundant.
David IceParticipantAbout 13 years ago I changed techniques totally, as I felt like I was always just on the edge of disaster when I played, and nothing could get me over that feeling.
David IceParticipantYears ago I saw an 8mm home movie of Salzedo playing FLIGHT and I think INTROSPECTION, but I might be wrong about the titles.
David IceParticipantI’ve always liked Betty Paret’s FIRST HARP BOOK.
David IceParticipantHi Rosalind,
Ouch!
David IceParticipantKay,
I growl too…and I remember Marjorie Call telling me once, “Who is in control?
David IceParticipantSteven,
I played AMAHL a few years ago and just remember that it was no big deal.
David IceParticipantNadermann Sonatine #2

David IceParticipantHi All,
I have never had a problem with students being poached….but I have had others tell me of problems when the student wants to change teachers!
David IceParticipantI debated about even responding to this thread, but ultimately decided that I must.
Years ago I had a married, male student who wanted to learn Celtic harp.
David IceParticipantRichard Strauss’ ADRIADNE AUF NAXOS (at least harp 1) is classic impossible harp writing.
David IceParticipantAbout a month ago I took delivery on a custom Venus Aria harp, with wide spacing and custom carving and gold leaf decorations on the back of the shell.
