Missy-just wanted to say how sorry I am about your Tucker. We have been through it twice. Though Tucker was pretty much deaf, he likely enjoyed the feeling of the vibrations. My Old English appreciated my harp more than any of my other dogs ever did or will. Connie

We had an Old English Sheepdog who would lay quietly when I played my harp. However, my husband plays trumpet and she would insist on staying in the music room when he played and there was a certain note that she would join in with him. Currently, my boxer loves to get as close as possible when I play – on piano, he tries to lay on my feet making use of the pedals difficult. I just got a pedal harp in May and he has tried to lay on my feet when I sit to play it.

    Just wanted to say:

I was able to contact the arranger (thanks for suggesting that) and faxed him (at his request) a copy of the harp chart. He sent me back a correct copy with typical, traditional pedal markings. He also said that the publisher should have corrected it and made it what it should be. I think I probably got it faster by going to him and now he is aware of the font change problem. So I will also go to the publisher to make them aware.

Thanks for everyone who got involved to help. Being a novice to the harp, this board is a great place to learn more than even in lessons!

    Elizabeth,

Thanks for that advice, I never even considered that-so I did find him and emailed him. He replied this morning and asked me to fax my copy to him. I was able to send him (in the email) the exact symbols from the music and he said it didn’t look like anything he used, that his pedal indications are the typical, traditional ones and that after the Finale file went to the publisher, something wierd must have happened with the font, (probably much like when I tried to put it here). Any way, I faxed it to him and hopefully he can explain for me and now he is aware that thnigs like this change in font can happen-(and make beginning-less experienced harpists, like me confused!) fortunately, there is this whole comunity to help. Thanks, Connie

Ok-the one symbol is just a large capital L, the other on looks like the right side of the border around the word: “Reply”. Is there a way to upload a file here? I can scan in the symbols. It’s frustrating!

Computers are so fun-when I posted it, it looked just like the symbols I found and inserted from my computer.

There are no Vs in the music-what there is are Ls-some are large capital Ls others are L that are ‘laying down’-like right angles with the short part on the right side-like the capital L is flipped over with the short side on the right, pointing down. In the middle is a circle with an accent mark, much like an upside down capital Q. I’m assuming that is what separates the left/right. and the vertical lines are naturals. Does that make sense?

    Calista,

Our daughter’s viola teacher has the same situation. Her baby is now nearly 3. She hired a baby-sitter for the hourse she taught. There were a couple of times that her baby-sitter-who was a high schooler-was unable to come. Those lessons, her teacher called and asked if I would like to cancel the lesson (reschedule or credit the fee to next month) or watch the baby. (I played with the baby) Her baby sitter was a student of hers. She also limited the hours that she would teach so she could get us all into 1-2 days. She also had make-up/extra lessons (competition, audition times) when her husband was home.

    Good luck-hope this helped some

    Julieanne-

I have a friend who is a cellist (spelling?) and college professor-he once told me that is it said that Bach said everything he wrote was to the the honor and glory of God-don’t think you could go wrong with Bach-but I’m not Catholic so it’s just my opinion.
