Thanks everyone for this advice!! I really want to try this, though it does seem labor intensive. It would be so great to have someone watch me replace a few to make sure I did understand how to correctly do this. I will keep you all posted if I do end up taking a swing at this!
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantHey, glad you found that info. I got the same email at the same time! LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for sharing!!
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantThanks everyone! These are some great ideas. Too bad I can’t play all of them. LOL.
(TIA = Thanks In Advance)
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantSorry to post on such an old thread….
I was wondering if anyone knows of a short Cadenza for a student of mine who has to learn this in a short period of time. We currently have the Grandjany version (the one I did and know) but the competition states that they cannot make any cuts the cadenza, so I’m looking for a shorter published version for her to substitute.
Thanks in advance.
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantThanks, These are great. I think my sister (the other harpist) wanted to do Raga as well. Such a cool piece!
Carl, you’re right 2 harp duets is redundant, but when I was searching online, “harp duets” pulled works with mixed instrumentation, so I just wanted to clarify the ensemble 🙂 Obviously I should have realized that here, I needed only to say harp duets.
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantThank you so Much Everyone! and Floraleda, that’s great information. I’ve seen a few used 30s with the square body and was a little hesitant, it’s good to hear the different opinions!
Now just to find a used one that’s not black 🙂 ….
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantI thought I saw that on a few of the harps for sale. Good to know that they changed to the curved backs. Ouch!
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantThanks! They did find something! Just in the nick of time. Phew!
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantThe sound is really what is most important, thus why I’m sticking to Lyon & Healy harps. I would get a different style, if the price and sound was right, but obviously we all have our favorites. I haven’t had a chance to drive out to Chicago to try a bunch yet, so I’m curious to see what those who own 30’s think of their sound as compared to other L&H instruments.
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantLast time I had a hotel gig, I got about $50/hr.
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantThere’s also MPulse at UM, Blue Lake, and I think Isabelle Perrin does a shorter camp mid summer near Michigan?
brittany-deyoung–2ParticipantMy Friend on Facebook just replied… it was written in 1949 and Premiered in 1950!… Figured I’d post it here just incase anyone else ever needs the same thing 🙂
