My Explorer will only fit one person besides the driver with a concert grand in the back…although the cello would also fit. The bed isn’t long enough for the harp plus anymore people than that, sorry.

Hi, Shelby: I had a Camac Clio Ex for about a year and a half – it was a fantastic harp. The projection was excellent and the sound was nice and warm. It was also very easy to move (for a pedal harp). The only reason I traded it in was I wanted a concert grand (and I went with another Camac!). I’ve tried several other Clios, and they seem to be generally good – though the extended soundboard does make a big difference in volume and tone. The only thing I don’t like about the Clio model is that the base is deeper than many other harps…and the pedals correspondingly slightly higher. This probably wouldn’t be a big deal if you play with any sort of heel on your shoe, but being a guy and wearing lower heeled shoes, it was harder to change pedals than on other harps. Rhett Barnwell and Seraphim Music have a couple of CD’s, but they are not only harp and cello. One is celtic harp, cello and soprano, and the other is celtic harp, cello and other instruments and voices. You could email them and ask for some clarification on how much other instrumentation is included. Rhett is a very nice person to work with.
My two pekingese occasionally like to nap with their heads propped on the base of the harp…so I find myself cleaning pekingese snot off my harp periodically. And I have had to make them move from underfoot so I could pedal without squashing them!
I second the Explorer. I have one, and fit my Camac Athena concert grand in easily. In fact, I recently went on a trip with the concert grand, a 34 string Thormahlen Serenade lever harp, two stands, two stools, and a harp dolly all stowed in there.

AndyFor awhile, you could find removable static cling soundboard decorations for harps on ebay. I’ve never tried them and don’t know anyone who has, but that might be an option. As I recall, they were available in a variety of designs. Maybe someone has tried them out and will chime in.

AndyAre you interested in a concert grand, or are you thinking of something smaller? Also, where are you located? It’s always best if you can try out several brands side by side, and pick the one that speaks to you, but this isn’t always possible. I’ve had the Lyon & Healy 85P (40 string) and the Camac Clio (44-string), and loved both.

I’ve seen Brook’s composition, it’s absolutely beautiful…It’s called “Upon the Willows”. If you’re going to the Southeast Harp Weekend next week, ask him to play it for you (and with him a Happy Birthday!).

Of the harps I’ve had over the years, some I’ve named and some not – just depending on whether a name popped into my head and if it seemed to fit! The two I have now are Chocolate (a walnut Thormahlen Serenade) and Freyja (a mahogany Camac Athena Concert Grand).

The Michigan Harp Center has a Clement Cross-strung on their website (listed under “floor harps”). They could probably tell you more about it. I’d be curious to hear myself!
