I would like to replace the wire strings on my pedal harp.

If the packaging has not been opened, they should be fine. Wires are a lot more durable than gut strings.

Joan- Just make sure you leave plenty of slack before tuning up the string. My book, A GUIDE FOR HARPISTS, has a chapter about changing wire strings(as well as many other maintenance and repair issues). You might want to take a look at that before changing your strings if you’ve never done it before. The book is available through Vanderbilt Music Co.

If they are tarnished you might want to use fresh ones, otherwise I can’t advise.

For instructions on how to change wires you can take a look at my husband’s (Mike Lewis) article here:

As Carl recommends, it is important to leave enough slack in the string before you wind them up to pitch.

Reward yourself afterwards with chocolate :-)
