    Hi,

    I recently played the harp in a cantata alongside the orchestra, and my illustrious part mainly included lots and lots of glisses! Not surprising. I used felt picks.

    I noticed that my strings now have a rough/slightly textured feel to them… on the side that I was glissing. Has anyone had this happen? I would hate to have worn out a set of strings in one gig! Thoughts?

    Hi Elisabeth,

    I don’t think that should be a problem – but if the strings start sounding false or they begin to fray, I would change them. Last year I played Salzedo’s Whirlwind, which, if you dont know, is about 3 minutes’ worth of the loudest glissandos around! It took a year before my strings were frayed, and that was only about 5 of them! In that case, your strings are probably fine.
