VORNADO humidifiers?

It’s that time of year and we’re having some very cold temps here in Northwest Florida; some days my humidity drops to 31-34 % in my harp room which is probably not the worst it could be i know. Today with a front coming its at 43. Should I be worried and has anyone used this brand of humidifier? I looked at old posts which were interesting. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have one Sonya, use it on cold (if this is the one you go with), warm creates a nasty while mineral film on everything. The cold will produce less of this film. My favorite was the Honeywell cold no mist humidifier but can’t seem to find it anymore. Do not aim the Vornado at your harp. During cold fronts here in Dallas, the best a humidifier can do is keep the room around 40% when the heater is running. Without, it would be around 12%.

I know I’m talking wet instead of dry here, but my harps go wet or dry depending on where I’m playing…home, outside, violent AC (cold and dry).

I wonder why people worry about this because if you are moving your harp in and out of places to play jobs, the humidity varies constantly. Personally, I never give it a thought….unless it’s near the ocean…then the harp gets practically wet and has to go inside to dry off before being covered. That scenario is rare, but it’s happened a couple of times. The newer finish (lacquered) withstands the humidity better than the stained finish, which is one reason I try to use my Etude outside instead of my LH15.

They’ve both been exposed to extremes of temp and humidity, and they still work OK. What was supposed to happen to them, I wonder?

Yes, I wrote much the same things on there. My LH15 was born in 1971, and my Etude in 1989. You can see them on my website (the music samples are the LH)
