MemberHi M.H.
You might try e-bay as well.

ParticipantKay- Do people sell harp music on ebay?? I must have the equivalent of 8 or 10 boxes of music I’ve inherited over the years that I don’t want. A lot of it is music that I already have. Some is pop music or classical that I’m never going to play. I’d love to see it go to someone who can use it. I’m going to have to learn to sell stuff on ebay.

MemberYeah, I have purchased used sheet music on ebay, although mostly as collections in book form. But I see music there all the time.
However generally I think most people who actively play do keep most of their music. A situation like Carl’s, where someone gives you a bunch of stuff that you already have or isn’t the kind of music you play is a bit different. But it seems to me that when musicians buy music they hang on to it.
Never know when you will want it in the future, or know how hard it may some day be to find. Building up a decent library of music can prove to be very convenient in the future. I have never gotten rid of sheet music that I can remember.

MemberCarl and others,
I have seen lots of music sold on e-bay. I would LOVE to see a list of old music that you might want to get rid of!

ParticipantKay- I’ll try to make up a list over the next month or so. I ended up with a lot of this stuff because every time I bought a harp, there was a box of music to go with it. I’m in the mood to start a big time clean out of everything I don’t use and am never going to use. I may list it on my web site.

MemberYou might check business listings near large music schools, where students might unload editions they had to study. It will probably be much better for piano music and full scores. Bloomington, Indiana had a large and well-stocked used music store for years.
When I want to sell something with minimum effort, I use Craigslist and would suggest trying it to search for music.
Also, some used booksellers now sell through Amazon, which would give access to multiple vendors at once and ease searching. Usually used versions are listed with the main version so you’d want to search for particular titles or try browsing sheet music. Recently I got a terrific out of print book on jazz by David Baker that way.
But I think the lesser number of harpist compared to pianists and violinists will make te pickings scarcer. It could well be that this post will be the best source, dice at least everybody reading it probably has some harp music.

MemberPS – I always buy my new music through the harp stores lime Melody’s and Sylvia Woods, since they usually organize it so well by composer, style, and type of harp. Just a plug for the harp music specialists when shopping new. I’ve always been weird about used books etc. It goes back to college when I was afraid of being led astray by a prior owner’s highlighting in case they ended up with a D.

ParticipantOne way I “soften the blow” finacially of buying new is to buy in collections/anthologies.
