Trying to choose a harp.

I currently have a MidEast harp that I’ve had 15 years and I like the size (30″ tall) but am ready for something of real quality with a full set of levers. I don’t mind going slightly larger but the most I can really hope to spend is between $1500-$1800 (which in itself is going to probably take me a long time to save up). There are several I’ve looked at online but the two I’m most interested in at this point are the County Kerry harp and Stoney End’s Even Song harp. Any experiences good or bad to share with me about these harps, or recommendations for similar ones that you’ve liked more?

As far as portability, I need something I can fit in the back area of our SUV (Subaru Forester). Two kids in carseats occupy the backseat at this time. 🙂

I don’t have any experience with either of those harps, but all things being equal (quality and sound-wise) I’d definitely go with the Evensong harp as it has 26 strings, 2 more than the County Kerry. I doesn’t sound like a lot, but believe me 2 strings more in the bass will make a huge difference in what you’ll be able to do with your left hand. I’ve got a Dusty Strings 26 (as well as a Dusty Strings 32). I can play just about all of my pieces on the 26 (with a revised left hand, of course), but anything less than that and it just wouldn’t work for most of my music.

Thank you! I would definitely like to get as many strings as possible for what I can afford… I’ve continued to research over the day and the Melody 26 on Blevins Harps site is very appealing to me along with the Bouree 26 and the Avebury 26. So many choices!

IHi JB, I own a County Kerry that I’m interested in selling due toI permanent shoulder injuries. I bought it County Kerry new in May, 2012 Andalusia had a custom Guardian travel bag made for it.
