I entered the living room quietly the other night, and caught my two lever harps talking to each other for the first time.
Troub.: Psst, Ogden, you awake?
Ogden: Are you kidding, with this humidity? My strings are sagging.
Troub.: It’s the perfect time to get the pedal harp. He hasn’t touched us for weeks. I haven’t been tuned for over two months.
Ogden: Well, that’s cause you always stay in tune, just so he might play you first.
I don’t care.
Troub: That’s cause you never had a bigger, better harp move in on your turf. Just you wait till he gets a newer, shinier lever harp, or another pedal harp.
Pedal: I heard that, you two good-for-almost nothings! But, if he gets a gold harp in here, I’m in with you. We’ll get it good. He’ll never know what broke that neck.
Troub.: Now you know who put that big gouge in my side.
Pedal: Like you didn’t bite me first.
Ogden: Bite me, both of you. I’m going to sleep and dream of Tara’s Halls.
Troub: I’m so sleepy, I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls.
Pedal: You will, marble halls of the men’s washroom at 30th Street Station, if I get my way.
