    Anne,

Comments on drilling the knot out.

Do not hesitate to engage a craftsman who is experienced with delicate
work, thin woods and tight places. No Harp specialist in your area?

the hammer went missing…so my brother helped me drill it out! i was very hesitant about it at first but desperation does occasionally initiate miracles. we didn’t use an electric drill though, because we weren’t sure of how to use it properly. so we used a hand drill instead and it was pretty much effective until the point when the drill bit broke but we replaced it. After drilling for sometime, i decided to try poking the knot out since the knot was already loosened by the drilling. Just as i was doing so, the knot popped out!

    thanks for the advice 🙂

I would not recommend using a dremel. Those rotate very fast and unless you have a very secure hold on it it could spin out and damage the eyelet or even the surface of the soundboard. I think a hand drill was a good choice because it’s easy to control. I’m glad it all worked out.

    Carl,

My dremmel is variable speed, I always thought they all are.

I remember a previous thread about Camac knots and this link was in one of the answers:

The Camac knot is very different from the Lyon & Healy knot. I found this out when I was storing a student’s Camac here, and a string broke. By googling Camac knots, I was able to correctly replace the string.

Liam- My dremel is so old that it is one speed only, and that speed is almost as fast as a router. A variable speed dremel would be great.
