My daughter (12, playing for the past 5 years) was inspired by a visiting harpist who played a fantastic ‘Spanish Dance’ on her harp.

Musicworks@bellsouth.net has published three volumes: Spanish Music For The Harp, arranged by Susann McDonald and Linda Wood. These ten pieces, mostly Spanish dances composed by Granados, Albeniz, etc. were originally for orchestra or piano and harpists love to now have them in the repertoire.

Any harp music dealer should have the McDonald/Wood books.

Just so’s you know, the Zabaleta pieces are Spanish and they are beautiful and pieces she should know, but they are not typical rhythmic Spanish dance type pieces, if that’s what she’s after. It would help to know exactly which Spanish dance she heard.

Nataliana is an original piece by Deborah Henson-Conant, but it’s lovely and in a Spanish style.

Yeah, you can find any pieces for Spanish dance type in any music dealer. Or in books that has dance lessons that plays with a Spanish dance type music. Best of luck for your daughter.

There is also a wonderful two-harp-and castanet version of Spanish Dance #1 by Patty Masri-Fletcher. If your daughter loves Spanish music and dance, she should also look for flamenco videos on Youtube to get a sense of the style.
