I’m going to be performing at my local amphitheater in Owosso, MI this coming Thursday night to open up for a jazz band and I have a question to ask. When practicing/performing on your lap harps (whether harpsicle, L&H Silhouettes, or the Camac lap harps, do you guys perform sitting down or standing up?

I sit. I like the idea of strapping on my electric harp and moving around, but I doubt my back would like it. And if it is going to be stationary I’d rather sit than stand, even if I can put it on a stand high enough to stand. I find my posture while playing standing tends to not be so good. Probably just what I’m used to, but sitting I know how I’m supposed to feel in correct position, not so much when standing, so sitting I feel more confident.

I have done both with harps a bit larger than a lapharp. It depends on the venue, piece and bringing the right stand.

However, this coming Thursday is very close and I urge you to perform the way you have practiced. If I decide to perform standing up I will have done much of my practice standing.
