Runway music?

What suggestions would you have for intermediate “runway” music. Just trying to think ahead and start working on my repertoire. It can be for pedal or lever. I play pedal mostly. There are beauty queen contests in the area and a classical guitarist usually plays as background music while the contestants are walking the runway and the announcer is talking about the person. A harp would also be great. What music would you play? There are also teas and fashion shows. What music would be appropriate as they walk the runway modeling the fashion while the announcer is describing the outfit? I would think you could use the same music for award ceremonies and graduations, etc. Thank you.

Have to admit that at first I thought we were talking about airport runways and couldn’t help wondering how on earth you hoped to be heard over the sound of the planes. 🙁

I have to say I’ve never attended this kind of show in my life so this is not exactly an informed opinion but when I’ve seen clips on TV the accompanying music is invariably those cheesy songs praising female beauty (‘A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody’, ‘Music to Watch Girls By’ etc) so I’m guessing a flick through some kind of ‘popular songs of the 60s’ book might be a good start. I do apologise, though, if I’m basing my thoughts on an extremely old-fashioned view of these pageants.

If a classical guitarist plays, does he play classical music? Whatever type of music the guitarist plays might be what works.

Thank you. I didn’t recognize anything but he seemed to play many things over and over. I will give it some more thought. It seems compositions by Barbara Semmann or Frank Voltz, Celestial series would work.

I have done this before and just played “Easy listening” stuff. I know, clear as mud. You don’t want to show and shine, just be in the background, so nothing that is going to jump out and bring attention to you. You can’t really coordinate music with the girls/guys. You just need to be aware and ready to bring things to a hault if/when the announcer needs to interject something other than the norman runway chatter.
