I know there have been posts here in the past asking about experience with the Roland Cube amps. I recently got a Mobile Cube and I highly recommend it. It’s very small, about the size of a purse, and runs on 6 AA batteries. It actually fits in the music pocket of my thormahlen case, with room left over for a stand light and cables and such (though I wouldn’t leave it in there when the harp is lying down in the car, since it would be lying on the strings).
It’s not an amp for a ballroom with a thousand people, for sure. But the sound is surprisingly good for the average kind of gig, where you just need a small bump to keep you audible. For up to a couple of hundred people at a party it works well.
I was expecting it to sound pretty awful, like the old amp cans or a pignose or something, but the sound compares favorably to my ancient trusty maximouse and to most of the other smaller amps I tried. I’m sure that the larger roland that Sylvia Woods sells probably can go a lot louder, but for portability, this is the one.
I particularly like that you can put it on a mic stand and get it up off the floor, which helps a lot with projection.
