I have a harp for for sale posted in the classifieds here. I have received a few responses from some very nice people. And last night I received the following email. I’m finding it peculiar that this person does not mention the harp at all. I have the price posted in the ad. I know that there have been some issues with fraud with responses to harp ads here before. Misspellings and lack of specific reference to what I have for sale raise my caution flags. That’s why I’m checking here first before responding. Has anyone received a similar email from “John Holmes?”

    Thanks,

    Tonie

It sounds like a total scam…..and “John Holmes” is the name of the notorious porn star whose life was fictionalized into critially acclaimed

I got an almost identically worded email back in December when I was selling one of my harps. I didn’t bother to write back, since everything he was asking about was already in my ad. I’d say it’s a scam.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I was wondering why that name sounded vaguely familiar!

The name also does not match with the name in the aol email address from which it was sent, leading me to think that the email address was hijacked as well.

My thoughts exactly. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

I just got the same type of response from an ad. Glad you had already discussed this! Email was from “John Holmes” asking questions that are already answered in the ad.
