Can anyone recommend a piece (to be performed in church) for soprano, tenor and harp (or S,T, organ and harp)? Must be neither too long nor operatic; must be tonal, and suitable for worship. Congregation has relatively conservative taste in music. Any suggestions?

The Malotte “Lord’s Prayer” for soprano and tenor with piano…the piano part can be pretty easily adapted for harp. Also, Hal Hopson’s “The Gift of Love” in two parts is based off of 1st Corinthians, piano part works perfectly on harp.

Blessed, Blessed Is He Who Cometh from Saint Saens’ Christmas Oratorio is a beautiful duet, not too long, and not operatic. It was a great favourite at my conservatory, and I’m surprised it’s not performed more often.

You can make a superb harp part from the piano-vocal choir score, though I wouldn’t play it in as staccato a style as this pianist does – slightly arpeggiated chords on the harp work wonderfully.

These are great suggestions; thanks. Bonnie, we are already doing the Saint-Saens! Looking for something else to do in the same service, in perhaps a lighter mood. Great minds think alike! Brian, I’ve never heard of the two pieces you mentioned, but will definitely check them out. I assume they’re available from the usual sources?

Mimimum order on the Hopson is 6 copies of the octavo, but it’s only $10 for six. You can hear them both on You Tube. The Gift of Love is definitely lighter…the melody is “The Water is Wide” so has a more simple, folky feel to it.
