    I always felt the social dynamics were just the opposite: conservative vs. progressive, Catholicism vs. Judaism, Old World vs. New World, etc.

    Do you think that those people knew him? I don’t. He was so far beyond the abilities of any of us, that even if he were, he was entitled, not that he was. No, that is just jealousy or meanness trying to diminish someone great.

    While I don’t think anyone is infallible, the only person I know who actually knew Salzedo was my teacher and she never had a negative thing to say about him. In fact she seemed to think the world of him both as a
