Hi. I’m hoping someone will help me. I’m playing bass octaves open handed, and I’m not sure if I’m doing it right (I’ve never done this before). Should I use 1-4 fingers or 1-3? It seems like I always over extend when I try 1-4. My lesson isn’t until next week, and my teacher is unavailable, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Barb

That is so annoying. You go from octaves hurting, to spanning a 10th with no problem, and then you start over-extending and you wish for the days when an octave was as far as you could go.

My teacher has me play opens with the 3rd and 4th, but primarily the 4th. Otherwise you don’t get the full effect of the sound.
