Yeah… or maybe I need to be a better (as we call it in the trade) “user experience designer” so it’s obvious :). I agree though, a (brief) explanation of what each area of the site is for wouldn’t be a bad idea.

    Elizabeth:

To the right directly across from “Posts” is a link that says “new posts.” Let us know what browser you’re using so we can investigate your other issues.

    Thanks!

Added a “sign in to post” link this afternoon, that should help a little…

Well, I like bits of the new site and other bits I’m not sure about. I like the more modern design. I don’t understand the Musicstand tag, which just shows that Hester is following so and so. As for the pieces tag, I,m not sure of the purpose of that yet. I would have liked a section where we can can see the uploads of member’s playing some tunes, like a Youtube just for Harpists. At least you wouldn’t get filthy, nasty comments on there as you often do on Youtube. And Harpists could share tips or just visually. I like the people section, or will when it’s a bit fuller. The forum section is pretty much the same as on here, and I get the blog section; for those who want to say a little more than just comment on a forum. I do though hope that other Harpists from around the World join the new site, and that stories, events and ‘featured news’ can be about Harping and Harpist from around the World. I think the most annoying thing at the moment are the many broken links. I’ve had to sign off several times and then back on to get rid of those pesky (American word) error pages, which once they come, they come in floods. But I’m sure this is just teething problems. All in all, it’s okay, but perhaps drop the pieces section in favour of something we can all join in. I don’t see this gathering many fans.

New site is a big improvement, will be fantastic once the dust all settles and the bugs are sorted out. Love it.

Nina: We worked on the site quite a bit over the weekend and my guess is you got the error pages as Hugh was updating the code. It happened to me once too. However, then they went away. Please let us know if you get any more, and what you were doing when you got them. A Youtube portlet is on our list….hopefully this week.

I love the new site! This site is also fine, but for people who are used to ‘web 2.0’ and beyond, the new site feels like home! It takes some time getting used to all the features but I don’t mind, I like exploring! 🙂

Hmm, I have mixed feelings – I resent what I see as pressure to transfer my (harp) life onto the site.

Poor Hugh – are you banging your head against the wall yet?

If the new site were only forums, then a some other platform that resembles the current one would be the way to go, but there are a lot of features on this one, such as the Library and better ways to comment and share wisdom on pieces, that will be very nice.

I much prefer the existing web content manager for the forums, as some of our postings are quite long and with vignette or whatever you have employed in the current format, the block index and chunky style boxes for the text are very easy to read and skim read.

Speaking of Hester, it is really creepy to have an anonymous spy watching everything, a Big Sister who is my friend whether I like her or not. That blows.

The difficulty of maintaining the site in its current form only goes to show the value of a print publication, such as yours.

Thanks for your vote of confidence Saul! We do believe strongly in the value of a print publication, which is why we continue publishing Harp Column in a print format while many other small publications have switched to web only versions. This website has always been intended as companion to the print version and a way to showcase current events and news, which is why the current site isn’t working. We are working hard to build the best site we can and to continue bringing this (free) service to you.
