Can anybody recommend a simple music notation software program for Mac?

Try Finale Notepad. You can get it free online. It’s simple and easy to use.

You can also trial Finale’s other music notation software. I happen to like PrintMusic- it has a nice scan feature. Simply scan your sheet music and edit it on your computer. The only drawback I have found to it thus far is it has a hard time scanning hand-written scores.

While I agree that notepad is a good place to start, it’s no longer free. It costs $10 now.

I’ve been a Sibelius user since version 1.2 and strongly recommend that you check out this program. They now have a similar lower-cost version with fewer features, but the same user-friendly interface. I tried using Finale before Sibelius came out and never felt comfortable with it, and I’ve used some serious MIDI software since the beginning of the Mac in ’84.
