ParticipantAm I the only one that thinks the new Lyon & Healy prices are have increased too much?
Really sad as I was interested in purchasing a Salzedo or Style 11 natural and now it is not affordable.

ParticipantIt’s never too much if the harps are fine enough to warrant it. Everything has gone up tremendously recently. At least a 30 or 100 is still a viable alternative, I hope. I’m more concerned with the large turnover of staff they have had recently.

ParticipantOr you can buy a second-hand harp, which may turn out to be the better deal, as the older models all had a proper glossy finish and were extremely well built since the 1990s.

ParticipantIn my opinion being charged roughly EUR49,000 just for a wooden harp model (style 23) is just too much. Especially without justifying the price increase nor notifying the general public.
Though I have to agree with you a second hand harp can be bought, one must not take into consideration just the appearance but also the sound of the harp how it had developed.

ParticipantAs Saul mentioned, the turnover of staff is a real concern now. Do they have time for proper training in harp building, or do they apply for a job and get put to work immediately? The lack of quality and customer service/satisfaction really bothers me at L&H. They were too great a company to now fall into this “lack of concern.” The prices of their harps has risen, but the quality has not!

ParticipantHas there been another price increase this year? I noticed when I looked at a brand new Ogden this weekend, that the price was higher than on the January 2022 price list I have. Unless it was marked up by the store. BTW, the harp seemed really well made and I didn’t notice anything really lacking in the quality. But I don’t have another earlier Ogden to compare it against, so take it with a grain. But it’s certainly worlds apart from my little Folk Harp rental which is…. what it is. Ha ha!

MemberIf I lived in Europe, I would be looking at Camac or Salvi harps. Part of what you are paying with Lyon and Healey is probably shipping and duty. If you compare what the dollar is worth/inflation over time, Lyon and Healey harp prices have been the same for more than 100 years.
