ParticipantHi! I’m Paula and I play the harp professionally.
I recently bought a pedal harp, it’s great to have my own harp!
But I’m having trouble transporting it to different places.
I am looking for carts to transport harps.
But the prices are very high? Does anyone have any carts for sale.
Or maybe you know of a cheaper option?
Let me know…. Greetings!June 30, 2025 at 9:05 am #426609charles-nix
MemberA proper cart is the least expensive thing you will buy for the harp. Strings cost more. Not to mention how much it costs to repair the harp you dropped trying to “make do” with an inferior method. I use the American Harp Cart. There are others as good. Some are better on stairs.

ParticipantYes, yes, I know that compared to the price of a harp, the difference is very big.
But I just bought the harp, and I’ve been making a lot of big purchases lately. So I currently can’t afford a harp cart. So, do you know of any cheaper alternatives…? Around $351.52, or that is second hand…? Thank you!July 4, 2025 at 11:22 am #426804balfour-knight
ParticipantWelcome, Paula!
Be sure to watch the Classified Ads here on Harp Column. Occasionally, someone wants to sell a used harp trolley.
Many years ago when I bought my first pedal harp, I was in your same situation. My sweet wife and I had to carry that heavy harp up and down our front steps to put it in our car. My father-in-law asked us “don’t they have an easier way to transport a harp?” We replied, “yes, but a harp cart is very expensive!” That was in November that year. For Christmas, we got a wonderful harp cart from my wife’s sweet parents, and we have used it for all these years!
Charles, good advice, too!
Best wishes and harp hugs,

ParticipantI have a Lyon & Healy pedal harp, style 14. I only play outside of my home a few times a year. My father built an inexpensive cart/dolly for me several years before he passed and it has served me well over the years. He made it out of 5/8″ plywood, 20 inch square (angled corners). He attached a swivel roller in each corner. I have help from my husband to move the harp up/down the steps to our house, but other than that, Dad’s version works really well for me and it has met my needs.
