ParticipantHas anyone played Faure’s In Paradisum as a duet for harp and organ? Is there an arrangement out there? I have Daniel Burton’s solo arrangement, but will be playing a funeral at a church that has a wonderful pipe organ and I’d love to play that piece as a duo. Thanks for any suggestions! … No, there will not be a choir, or string instruments available.

MemberMelissa, if you cannot find a suitable arrangement, you might want to consider Daniel Burton’s harp/guitar piece “Processional.” There is a video on youtube.

MemberMelissa, I remember that Diane Bish, organ, and I think Susann NcDonald, harp, have made a recording together. Perhaps this selection is included on it. Does anyone have time to research this? My arrangement of In Paradisum, for Solo Harp, published by Herald Music in Seattle, several years ago, would allow an organist to join and form a duet using certain excerpts from Faure’s original organ part. Herald Music publications are available in the U.S.A. and several foreign countries.

ParticipantThanks for the suggestions! Patricia, I will look for your arrangement! What I envision is for the harp to play the running 16th notes while the organ plays the melody, reinforces the bass line pulse, and brings out more of the inner voices in the harmony. … It’s for my aunt’s funeral, which we are delaying for a few weeks to give family members time to arrange travel plans.

MemberWhoops, I meant to suggest to Melissa to use Daniel Burton’s harp/ORGAN arrangement of “Processional.” I must have been thinking about my harp/guitar duo when I wrote:)

ParticipantDear Melissa,
some years ago I made myself (I’m composer/harpist/organist) an arrangement, among many others, of Fauré’s In Paradisum for harp and organ: I should find it because it has been a long time I have not used it (it is just a manuscript). I could inform you as soon as I get it. Anyway (if you are interested) I can also put at your entire disposition, from that very same Requiem (but for harp duet!) : Sanctus — Liberame — In Paradisum. Sincerely, Mauricio Nasi (just in case, my e.mail ad. is: siruam32@yahoo.es)March 14, 2014 at 12:17 am #62217melissa-gallant
ParticipantMauricio – Thank you so much for your generous offer! I’m glad to know someone else has had this idea of playing this beautiful music as a harp and organ duet! … A couple days ago, a very kind colleague wrote out an organ part for me to give to the organist for my aunt’s funeral. I will play the 16th notes from the orchestral version’s organ part until the harp part’s entrance, then I’ll switch to that. … Once the funeral is over, I will get in touch with you about your harp duet arrangements! Thanks, again!!

ParticipantOK! Later I could also send you a list of my arrangements, most of them with harp(s) and one or more different kinds of keyboards. And I wrote(among all kinds of musical forms) 26 toccatas for harp and (or) keyboard(s): a couple of them have been played in several countries (Sapporo Festival, Japon — Festival Felip Pedrell, Spain — Wielki Festival, Polonia — Bosforo University, Turquia — some cathedrals in France….etc. I’ll be glad to share my scores for concert use and, of course, I will accompany them with some printed programs of past concerts. My style is a kind of “modern-romantic”….and frequently I did play the premiéres, personally. (I came from an italian family, now living in Bogotá, Colombia). Best regards. Mauricio Nasi.
