It seems to be that I am alone here in saying that I have had problems with neighbours with my practise in apartments….It was fine

Wow, this has really turned into an interesting discussion! There are a lot of interesting viewpoints/backgrounds/suggestions posted here.

It had never occured to me to soundproof a room so that’s a great suggestion.

I considered an electroharp but that’s not really the sound or style I’m after, even though it would be practical, but it’s still a good suggestion.

I feel for those of you who have had to deal with family or neighbors not liking your instrument, but I’m glad to hear that most people do like the harp or at least grow to.

In any case, thanks again for your help!! It is much appreciated.

I would also add that if you need to replace an existing door, jeld-wen has some solid core noise reduction doors that are not expensive that you can order through places like Home Depot or Lowe’s. They come in most of the same styles their regular interior doors do.

I think most of us agree that you have 2 simple-but-complicated things to consider and balance- your love and respect for your dear new husband and your need as a new wife to balance that with your passion for music.

Another thought that I hope wasn’t already mentioned- my Lewis Creek Nightingale has a small beautiful tone, but respnds wonderfully whether played with her big voice or her little voice.

If you love it, a travel-lap-therapy harp will always be part of your life, even when you’re in the position to have something larger.

Hey Becky,

How would you feel about driving about an hour to be able to put your hands on a couple nice harps? I’m in Columbia and have a Thom 23 and a Heartland Dreamweaver 34 that I would be willing to share for an afternoon.

I’m also a newcomer to harps and understand the anticipation and frustration on not being able to actually PLAY a harp…grin.

Just to let you know columbia is a bit frther than an hour from Charlotte….more like 2 hours…

I palyed my harp in an apratment and I dont even know if my neighbors heard me…. kept it

Hey Marcia,

Good to hear from you again. Columbia’s about an hour and a half, maybe less, from where I am, so it really isn’t too bad. I’m going to try to make it over there sometime soon.

I hope you can work out a schedule with the harp in your new home!
