Dear overseas colleagues and harp lovers!

By the end of this month I will travel to the States from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I am a Dutch harpist in search for a new L&H concert harp. The trip has one specific goal: to find a powerful yet brilliant concert harp in full balance with great projection for a very versatile and intense use (contemporary, extemporaneous composition, pop, jazz, improvisation, solo, orchestral, band and cross-over collaborations, in concert halls, festivals, radio, recording, exciting-stages-with-poor-acoustics-because-not-primarily-built-as-concert-location etc).

For it could be either a new or pre-owned harp, I am both in touch with Chicago HQ and regularly checking the classified ads here on Harpcolumn.

Now my question is: do you have any tips for me? Centers to get in touch with, maybe you’ve heard of an interesting private harp sale… If you have any ideas or advice, I would love to hear from you. [beateharp @ gmail.com] Thank you so much and take care,
Beate Loonstra, harpist from the Netherlands.

Does your new harp have to be a L&H? Have you considered Camac or Salvi?

Dear Balfour-Knight, thank you for your reply. Having spent two years on finding out the exact sound and balance I am searching for (and having played a style 23 for over 16 years) I am pretty sure the answer will be a L&H. However, in general, never say never!

    Hi Beate,

I was a L&H fanatic until I found my Camac Atlantide Prestige, ha, ha! Have you ever played a Camac Oriane? They are very special harps, with the look of a L&H 23, with great clarity and projection.

Happy searching for your dream harp,
    Balfour
