Harp in the car without a case

I have a floor model Stoney End Lorraine harp. It fits in my backseat on its side, which is how I got it home from the store where I bought it. It has a thick padded cover but not a hard case. Would it be a bad idea to travel with it that way for a 5-hour car ride?

I don’t know anyone who ever uses a hard case for a car. Always put the harp with the non-levered side down. Always be sure nothing will fall over on it, that it won’t bounce around, and that it can’t move if you have to brake hard suddenly.

Otherwise, there is no problem.

Does the padded cover go all the way around the harp, including the bottom? I have a L&H Troubadour, and I don’t understand why all they make for it is a dust cover but no transport cover. I also have a L&H Prelude, and they DO make a transport cover for that which is separate from the dust cover that comes with it, and their Ogden model comes with a carrying case, so I’ve never understood why they don’t make something beyond just a dust cover for the Troubadour.

The bottom of the cover has a flap that is loose. Kinda stupid. I use safety pins to pin it to the rest of the cover so the harp can’t fall out.

Thanks for the advice. Glad to know a case isn’t needed.

A padded cover is not nearly enough protection for a harp. Would you put a baby in a car without a car seat? It needs to be fully cushioned, with a mattress or thick foam pad, or the like.
