Harp ‘handle’?

Could someone clear up a minor puzzle for me?

Tacye- It was originally intended to be a handle for lifting and dragging the harp. But I wouldn’t use it for anything like that. There simply is not that much holding it in place. I usually find when I repair a harp for anything at all that the two screws holding that handle in place are barely threaded in and could pull out very easily. It’s mostly a decoration.

There is a Style 30 on one of the used harp sites, an older one with a squared back, and it has a wooden handle, very plain, in keeping with the appearance of the rest of the harp.

Some of the handles I’ve seen are very ornate, sort of matching the decoration of the rest of the harp.

Wait… You’re not supposed to use the handle? You’re supposed to use the holes?

I also tend to lever the body over my thigh if lifting the harp briefly, as in removing it from the car, or taking off the base cover. I shuffle a pace or two with one hand on the column, one on the “handle” and it fulcrumed over my thigh. If I switch to the sound holes is this safe for lifting the harp?
