I have a hard, shipping case for a concert grand harp that I am ready to stop storing. In the 15 years I have owned the harp I have only used it once so it seems unnecessary. My question is, is there any way to pass this on to someone who could make use of it? I’m not looking for money for it, but would hate to see it just go in the trash. I’m in the northern Virginia area, just outside of Washington, D.C. Thanks for any ideas!

Jennifer, you may have heard of the American Youth Harp Ensemble, based not far from where you are, in Richmond, Virginia. Lynelle Ediger is Artistic Director, and the group of young students has played on a tour to Europe, and in the White House, and in April they are headed for Alice Tully Hall, in Lincoln Center. It seems to me, transporting many harps without damage would require each one to have a hard case. You could get in touch with the group by, or their mailing address: Harps Foundation, 4200 Dover Road, Richmond VA 23221.

Patricia, thank you so much for that idea. I am familiar with that group but hadn’t even thought about them. I will definitely contact them to see if they could use it.

A quick Google threw up the following sites, all of which look great. I’m sure there must be plenty more and perhaps even one near where you live.

Failing that, there’s always freecycle –

Good for you, Jennife, for being willing to part with the case – it’s so hard for us to give up any of our music ‘stuff’ just in case there comes a time when we’ll regret it!
