What do you think are the best pieces to demonstrate the harp to potential students?

I have had differing responses. They don’t always want to hear glisses, but that the harp can play what they recognize as “real music.”

One piece that did well was the Tambourin by Daquin.

When I show people my harp–they always seem to like glissandos, arpeggios, rolling chords. And I agree, “real” music makes a big hit. Everyone like Amazing Grace, and a couple of other big hits are Danny Boy (bleah), Moon River, and Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring. Greensleeves is good, but EVERYONE plays that.

Now I want to here ‘Tambourin’ by Daquin. Haven’t heard that one!

Whoops, that should be “HEAR Tambourin”…is sleepiness an excuse?

Chanson dans la Nuit is always a big hit.
