My father has been playing quite a bit of Civilization V recently. There is a piece that repeats that intrigued me:

    Epitaph of Seikilos

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kpVrmRkPWk

Around 1:20 it sounds like the piece could be played on the harp.

I searched a bit and found that it is an orchestration using the Epitaph of Seikilos, supposedly the oldest recorded musical composition.

I was wondering if anyone had any more information on this musical piece, and knew whether there is sheet music on the harp for it?

    Thanks a million.

It is just a melody, and it can be downloaded or found in collections of historical music in a library. However, there are more-ancient Sumerian cuneiform scores that can be transcribed and played, I believe. Music of the ancient Hebrews exists as melodies, too, so Seikolos is only the oldest European music.

Suzanne Guldimann has published an arrangement of it in her collection “The King’s Delight”.

I’m amazed at how much good music comes out of the video game world.
