As wedding harpists, what is the ratio of brides that have asked you to play Canon in D versus Bridal Chorus for their wedding?

Canon in D wins hands down every time 🙂

I play Canon almost 100% of the time, but as a processional for the attendants.

I think it depends on the type of wedding.

    Dave,

This is off topic, but I was thinking of you today. Today’s gig was in a grocery store. I wasn’t sure where they were going to put me, so I dressed warmly, just in case I ended up in the cheese dept. (which is where I think you’ve played in the past, if memory serves).

Why were you playing in a grocery store?

So far it’s about 50/50, but I will give my opinion to the bride and it is that I (again just my opinion) feel the Bridal Chorus it better served by the big blast of the organ with all the bells and whistles.

That makes sense, especially since the brides who choose to have a harpist in their wedding are usually looking for something “different” anyway.

Yes, Jerusha…..it was in the cheese section.

This is slightly off topic, but I am rather surprised that people use Bridal Chorus for weddings at all, seeing as how it is a funeral dirge.

    Dave,

We may be the only two harpists in the world who’ve played in a grocery store!:)

I’ve seen others. Maybe if I could get some free brie or gruyere out of it…
