    Hi,
I have a 12-year-old student who would love to go to a camp or perhaps enter a competition.

I have the same situation I’m dealing with. My student is also a wonderful student and she is very responsible but she isn’t into pedal harp just yet. I would love for her to go to a camp or a competition for lever harp that would give her a good learning experience and that would be fun to meet other lever harpists. We are located in Michigan.

    Thanks!

Doesn’t the midwest harp camp in Oklahoma include lever harp players?

    She’s in San Diego.

Susan, look at http://www.pacificharpinstitute.org, a camp in Kirkland, WA, that accepts all young harpists, whether lever or pedal players.

    Thanks–I’ll check it out.

What about the University of Redlands Harp Camp? It’s scheduled for July 26-31st. The link is:

    Hi Susan,

I’ve got students that same age who are looking for similar activities and two regional events that I would recommend to you are these:

    June 19-20
Great American Irish Fair at Irvine Meadows Fairground in Irvine. CA.
There will be workshops on Celtic style and a lever harp competition (adjudicated by myself and Dennis Doyle). See the website for details:

There is also the Central Coast Harp Workshop with Marcia Dickstein — July 16 – July 18 in Morro Bay, CA. Students of all ages (lever and pedal) go to the three day weekend with solo pieces prepared for masterclasses. If you want to play in an ensemble they send you music ahead of time to practice. On Sunday afternoon there’s a recital of the solo and ensemble pieces. It’s a small group and participants have lots of fun while working on technique and musicianship.

Thank you, Gloria and Laurie, for the great regional leads!
