Hi Carl:

The following is from the System Three Epoxy Book:

“Epoxies formulated for coating and fiber glassing are too thin to serve as gap-filling adhesives. They can be modified by the addition of thixotropes to form non-sagging pastes very useful as gap filling glues.”

You are impregnating the carbon fiber with epoxy resin, I do the same thing, but with fiberglass cloth over marine plywood for boatbuilding.

Paul- When you’re using epoxy for a boat application, I’m assuming that you are not clamping anything. So the epoxy has to have enough body to stay where you put it. I’m clamping the epoxy and carbon fiber between two pieces of maple laminate each 3/4 of an inch thick, and I’m using a bag press for the pressure. So I’m wondering if that need for fillers really applies to my work. As i said, I haven’t had any issue with this, i.e., there is no evidence that it has failed.

Hello! I want a lap harp that I can transport easily Since 22 strings sound too limited to me, I’m planning to build the Limerick harp. Can I play it with a strap when I’m standing? And are knee bones comfortable?

I’ve built the Limerick from a kit, and I use both knee bones and a strap to secure it. I can stand and play it, but make sure you pad the strap where it hits your shoulder-it doesn’t seem like it would, but 12 lbs. gets heavy rather quickly. The knee bones are fine as long as your knees & hips are lined up, other wise they will tend to roll in or out depending on whether your knees are below or above the line of your hips. But I adore my Limerick! I have it strung with wire but either choice of strings sound great!
