I would have asked them what percentage less than their normal fee are they paying everyone else?

Or I would simply tell them that unless their “something” is “something pretty darn close to my fee” then the answer is no.

Why do people think that musicians don’t need their full fee? Do they think that musicians don’t eat or something?

Call them up and tell them that your normal fee is X(double what you normally charge), but that you’d be happy to do it for half that. Nothing like conning the con artists!

And don’t fall for that old line, “It’s really good exposure.” Nonprofit organizations are businesses like any other and have money to spend.
