I’m studying for the UK ABRSM Grade Six harp exam but my teacher and I have no idea how fast scales have to be for this level. We’re abroad and neither of us have a clue. The ABRSM book doesn’t give any indication of speed either. Help!

Remember that the examiners hearing harpists are pianists. There are posted scale tempi for piano scales and arpeggios. I have my students prepared to play at the posted piano scale tempi. This consistently yields successful results.

Thank you – that’s extremely helpful. I didn’t know they weren’t harpists but it doesn’t surprise me. There aren’t that many of us around I suppose.
