Harpist Oliver Wass has released a new recording on Tactus Records, titled simply Harp music · Chamber music · Harp concerto, which features works that Wass commissioned from Misha Mullov-Abbado and pairs them with works from primarily Italian composers from the 16th century onwards. Wass performs early repertoire on Italian triple harp and more recent music on modern harp. The 2-CD set, with a total play time of 92 minutes, includes solo harp music and chamber music featuring duets with Gabriela Opacka-Boccadoro (violin) and trios with the Pelléas Ensemble—consisting of Wass, Henry Roberts (flute), and Luba Tunnicliffe (viola)—as well as a world premiere recording of Luigi Molino’s Concerto for Harp and Orchestra accompanied by the Ensemble APM orchestra conducted by Luca Vacchetti.
A first prize winner at the “Suoni d’Arpa” International Competition, Wass is now a professor at the Royal College of Music in London. He plays both modern and early harps, and has performed the Handel Harp Concerto with the English Concert at the Wigmore Hall on the triple harp, as well as touring to New York’s Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, and Salzberg Mozarteum. Wass holds a first class master’s degree from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he studied with Imogen Barford. He graduated from the University of York with a first class honors degree in chemistry.
