Montreal-based trio Malvenn released its debut album, Chez Nous, on Oct. 2, featuring Cécile Delage on Celtic harp and foot percussion, Charlotte Layec on clarinet and bass clarinet, and McKinley James on cello, the recording brings together 11 tracks drawing from Breton, balfolk, and Québécois traditions, alongside original compositions by the band. The album title Chez Nous echoes the welcoming Quebec expression, meaning “home,” that invites people in to share a simple, heartwarming moment. The title is also a nod to the group’s home-concert tour series, “Malvenn joue chez vous” (“Malvenn plays in your home”).
Founded in Montreal in 2023, Malvenn is known in Québec’s folk music scene for their original compositions and fresh arrangements. The trio has performed throughout North America, including at Festival Trad Montreal (Quebec), Big Branch Festival (Ontario), Flurry Festival (New York), and the Chants de Vielles Festival (Quebec). Malvenn is also a recipient of the 2026 Brian O’Donovan Legacy Touring Grant from Club Passim.
The album is now available in CD, vinyl, and digital download formats via Bandcamp, as well as on streaming platforms. Watch the title track below.
