Hawaiian-born harpist Lara Somogyi releases her debut solo album Sept. 23 on the London-based record label Mercury KX. Recorded in Somogyi’s home studio in Los Angeles, her new album is entitled ! —a nod to her search for greater expressive range on the harp through explorations of a new sound world. On this album, she experimented in a number of ways—putting blu-tack onto the strings, playing the strings with a bow, using a milk frother, experimenting with loops and FX pedals, and electronically processing some of the tracks.
Somogyi’s harp-centric recording comes after extensive collaborations with other artists, including features on movie soundtracks (including The Lion King and the Academy-Award-winning film The Green Book) and collaborations with artists such as Bonobo, H.E.R., Camila Cabello, and Ariana Grande.
