San Diego-based harpist and composer Tasha Smith Godinez has released her sixth studio album, A New Day, on World Music Day, June 21. The new album is available through Ennanga Records & Publishing, which she founded.

According to a press release, Smith Godinez blends traditional harp plucking on Celtic and electric harps with various other techniques and instruments. These include mallets on the strings and soundboard of the electric harp, the use of stomp pedals on both harps for various effects, a variety of cymbals, chimes, and percussive cymbals called crotales, and using the soundboard as an occasional drum.

A New Day is a collection of nine original compositions by Smith Godinez, featuring Celtic and electric harps, viola, bass, and percussion, plus occasional vocals. “The blend of the electric and acoustic harp sounds brings new life to the harp, augmenting the instrument’s sonic possibilities and expanding the horizon of harp music,” Smith Godinez says. “When you hear A New Day from start to finish, you’ll hear jazz, world, a little blues and a touch of the avant-garde.”
