Romano releases new solo album for lever harp

Lever harpist Amelia Romano
San Francisco-based lever harpist and composer Amelia Romano releases a new album of classical works “re-imagined” for lever harp.
September 18, 2023

Lever harpist and composer Amelia Romano is set to release a new album Sept. 20. Levers Engaged: Classical Works Re-imagined for Harp features 20 works ranging from 17th-century Scarlatti sonatas and an 18th-century Naderman sonatina to works by 20th-century minimalist composer Philip Glass and contemporary jazz harpist Brandee Younger.

Levers Engaged is available for pre-order via Bandcamp. Nine of the works on the recording are also available in Romano’s new sheet music collection, Classical Re-imaginations, starting Sept. 20.

Romano says of the album, “While the pedal harp is the classical instrument of choice, this compilation challenges the belief that lever harp is an exclusively diatonic or folk-based instrument.”

Based in San Francisco, Romano holds a Master of Music degree in classical lever harp performance at San Francisco State University. Find out how she arranges classical works for lever harp in her feature article from the May/June 2023 issue of Harp Column. Several of her compositions are available for download from Harp Column Music. Romano also offers virtual seminars for lever harpists on her website.
