Maeve Gilchrist joins Berklee Faculty

Berklee College of Music has added lever harpist Maeve Gilchrist to their faculty as part of their American Roots Program, which focuses on fiddling, bluegrass, Celtic music, and other folk traditions. The Scottish-born Celtic harpist’s CD Reaching Me was released in 2006 to international acclaim, and she recently released her second album, Song of Delight, on Adventure Music Records. Gilchrist, who’s performing credits include the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival, and team-ups with the likes of Alasdair Fraser and Esperanza Spalding, joins harp professor Felice Pomeranz to help round out the unique program that includes majors in Performance, Music Business, Music Therapy, Music Technology, and Sound Design in addition to traditional music studies. “Harpists who play pedal harp and also lever harp can come to Berklee to work on these styles, in addition to classical, jazz, rock, and other improvisatory music,” says Pomeranz.
